Arizona Attorney General Establishes New Civil Rights Council

In a move to uphold civil rights initiatives, Arizona’s Attorney General has announced the formation of a new civil rights advisory council. This initiative comes as a response to the recent dissolution of a similar board by the state Legislature.

The defunct advisory board, which had been a bipartisan effort initiated nearly six decades ago, played a crucial role in collaborating with the civil rights division. It primarily concentrated on combating hate crimes and addressing fair housing and accessibility challenges. However, this board was recently disbanded by state lawmakers.

Attorney General Kris Mayes emphasized the significance of the board’s mission, asserting that its vital role should not be discontinued. “The board’s work is too important to go unfinished,” she affirmed, committing her office to carry forward the board’s legacy.

Details about the composition of the new civil rights council, including the names of its members, have yet to be released.
