Waymo and Uber Conclude Their Robotaxi Partnership in Phoenix
In a recent development, Uber users in Phoenix will no longer be able to book Waymo’s autonomous vehicles through the app, as the collaboration between the two companies has come to an end in this city.
The partnership, which began in Arizona in 2023, was initially seen as a significant step toward integrating autonomous vehicles into everyday transportation. According to a spokesperson for Waymo, the collaboration was “a productive pilot that paved the way for future expansions and partnerships across the globe.”
This decision follows Waymo’s suspension of freeway service in Phoenix and other cities back in May. The suspension aimed to focus on enhancing performance in areas challenged by construction and flood zones. Despite the end of this partnership in Phoenix, Waymo continues its collaboration with Uber in Austin and Atlanta.
