Tragic Off-Road Vehicle Incident Claims Child’s Life in Oak Creek Canyon

A devastating accident unfolded in a wooded region of Oak Creek Canyon on a Sunday morning, as a 19-month-old child lost their life in an off-road vehicle rollover.

Authorities report that the young victim was thrown from the vehicle during the crash, which occurred at the junction of Forest Service Road 535 and State Route 89A. The child was not secured in a child safety seat or any appropriate restraint device at the time of the incident.

Two other passengers, aged 17 and 7, sustained injuries and received medical attention at the crash site.

The vehicle was driven by 37-year-old Miguel A. Pacheco, who now faces multiple charges. These include manslaughter, three counts of aggravated assault with a dangerous instrument, and two counts of felony endangerment. Additionally, charges encompass possession and use of a narcotic drug, DUI drugs, and several aggravated DUI offenses, including driving with a suspended or revoked license and having a passenger under 15 years old.

Pacheco is currently held in Coconino County jail under a $500,000 bond. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
