In a strategic move by the Trump administration, additional military forces have been dispatched to strengthen the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona. This initiative is part of a broader national campaign aimed at enhancing border security.

According to the U.S. Northern Command, 500 troops from the 10th Mountain Division will set up base at Fort Huachuca, located in southeastern Arizona. Their mission is to assist in achieving “operational control of the southern border.”

This new deployment joins approximately 1,600 active-duty U.S. Army members who were stationed along different segments of the border earlier this year. These forces complement the roughly 2,500 soldiers already collaborating with Customs and Border Protection.

The duties of these troops might include providing logistical support, such as installing razor wire barriers. However, unlike state-deployed National Guard forces, these federally assigned troops are not authorized to execute immigration-related arrests.

Meanwhile, the number of apprehensions by Border Patrol agents in Arizona, as well as across the country, has seen a decline over the past several months.
