New Fire Restrictions Imposed Across Arizona Amid Dry Conditions
As Arizona experiences dry and hot weather, new fire restrictions are slated for northern and central sections of the state starting Friday at 8 a.m. Many areas have already enacted various levels of fire bans, with additional heightened measures implemented in eastern, western, and southern regions.
The stage 1 fire ban will cover all unincorporated lands in Coconino County as well as the Coconino National Forest. These restrictions limit campfires and smoking to designated recreational areas. However, Coconino County lands within the Kaibab National Forest are not currently subject to these restrictions.
Moreover, stage 1 restrictions will be introduced on state trust lands located south of the Grand Canyon in Coconino County on Friday, with northern areas following on Monday. Simultaneously, the Prescott National Forest will implement a total ban on recreational shooting under stage 1 restrictions from Friday.
More stringent stage 2 restrictions, which disallow all campfires and most open flames, will be in effect from Friday in Coconino County areas within the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests due to particularly arid conditions.
Earlier this week, the Coconino National Forest and the City of Flagstaff announced their plans to implement stage 1 restrictions commencing Friday.
