Major U.S. Homebuilder to Relocate Headquarters to Tempe, Arizona

In a strategic decision poised to reshape its operations, one of the largest homebuilders in the United States has announced plans to relocate its headquarters from Los Angeles to Tempe by 2027. The move is primarily aimed at reducing operational expenses and benefiting from a more central geographical location.

Tempe Mayor Corey Woods has expressed the city’s commitment to providing the company with personalized support during the transition. “If they are looking to hire more people, we are exactly the place to be because we have so many qualified, talented people who are here to get not just simply the jobs of today, but also the jobs of the future,” Woods emphasized.

The relocation decision was also influenced by Arizona’s favorable tax environment. Mayor Woods highlighted the company’s focus on affordable housing and clean energy as valuable contributions to the local community. The new headquarters will be situated at Hayden Ferry Lakeside, offering scenic views of Tempe Town Lake.

In addition to aiding the homebuilder’s transition, Tempe city officials are keen on attracting more businesses to the area, leveraging the advantages of the local talent pool and economic environment.

In related economic news, the median household income in Tempe has surged from just over $48,000 in 1970 to more than $77,000 in 2023, marking a substantial increase exceeding 60%, one of the highest in the nation. However, Arizona’s housing market is experiencing some fluctuations. A report by the Common Sense Institute has identified Arizona as one of the least affordable states, while the housing market in the Valley shows signs of cooling, with the average home price in Phoenix declining by over 2.5% in the past year, according to Zillow.

Residents are advised to be cautious, as Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes has issued a warning about a rise in construction scams, particularly those targeting small guest houses and casitas. Meanwhile, the Phoenix Fire Department reports multiple dispatches to the Ray Apartments building since February 22.
