A Significant Development for Northern Arizona’s Judicial Access
Flagstaff is set to welcome a new addition to its landscape—a federal courthouse that promises to ease the legal journey for thousands of northern Arizona residents. This modern facility will significantly reduce the distance citizens need to travel for federal court proceedings.
Located along the historic Route 66, the courthouse will be a three-story, steel-framed structure with a stone exterior. Currently, most federal cases require a lengthy trip to the Sandra Day O’Connor U.S. Courthouse in Phoenix, but this new development will bring services closer to home for local residents.
The building will feature two courtrooms, underground parking designated for judges and U.S. Marshals, and a secure area for prisoner intake. To ensure safety, separate paths will be utilized for judges, defendants, and the public. The facility has been designed with a level three security rating, which includes perimeter fencing and physical barriers, and the U.S. Marshals Service will oversee its security.
Construction is expected to culminate with the courthouse opening its doors by early 2027. More details about the project and its timeline can be found here.
