New Trail Enhances Outdoor Connectivity in Flagstaff

Outdoor enthusiasts in Flagstaff have something new to celebrate with the completion of a trail that enhances accessibility between urban parks and natural forest areas. This development is thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Flagstaff Biking Organization and the Coconino National Forest.

The recently realigned Lower Oldham Trail is now a part of the extensive Arizona National Scenic Trail, which runs all the way from Utah to Mexico. This new gravel path serves as a connector, linking Buffalo Park with the Mount Elden-Dry Lake Hills trail systems located north of Flagstaff, replacing a previously challenging route.

The $91,000 project was funded by contributions from several local businesses, which supported both the contractors and the volunteers, along with federal trails crews who were involved in the construction. The Flagstaff Biking Organization emphasizes the crucial role of community involvement in the project’s success.

Anthony Quintile, a board member of the Flagstaff Biking Organization, highlighted the community’s role, stating: “Flagstaff Biking has long relied upon local business support to help us in our mission to promote bicycling as a safe and attractive means of transportation and recreation in Northern Arizona. We’re happy to live in a place where recreation generally, and bicycling specifically, is so highly valued.”
