Pima County Secures Federal Support for Sustainable Housing Initiatives

Efforts to enhance the sustainability of low-income housing in Pima County have received a significant boost thanks to federal funding. The Pima County Board of Supervisors recently gave unanimous consent to the acceptance of federal grants aimed at improving energy efficiency in homes through the county’s Home Repair Program.

These grants, amounting to over $730,000, are provided by the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Health and Human Services. The funds are earmarked for crucial upgrades in qualifying homes, including improvements in insulation, roof repairs, and plumbing updates, all designed to reduce heating and cooling costs.

Eligibility for this assistance is extended to owner-occupied, low-income households located outside the Tucson city limits. County officials have stated that priority will be given to families with young children, elderly homeowners, and individuals with disabilities.
