Record-Breaking Heat and Unusual Precipitation Patterns in Northern Arizona for 2024
Unprecedented warmth swept across northern Arizona in 2024, marking a year of exceptional weather conditions. The National Weather Service reports that Page, Show Low, and Winslow experienced their hottest year on record, while Flagstaff and Prescott encountered their second warmest year.
Despite the heat, precipitation patterns varied significantly across the region. While much of western Coconino and Yavapai Counties struggled with below-average rainfall, areas in east-central and northeastern Arizona saw an increase in precipitation.
Snowfall also presented an interesting anomaly. Flagstaff recorded snow totals that exceeded the average by approximately 15 inches. Bellemont saw an even more substantial increase, ending the year with an additional three feet of snow.
Meanwhile, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, typically a snowy locale, received 122 inches of snow, which was about three and a half inches less than the expected amount, underscoring the unpredictable nature of the year’s weather.
