New Appointment Shakes Up State Supreme Court

In a recent political development, Governor Gretchen Whitmer has made a significant appointment to the state Supreme Court. Noah Hood will temporarily hold a position on the bench until 2026, succeeding former Chief Justice Elizabeth Clement.

Elizabeth Clement, initially appointed by Republican Governor Rick Snyder in 2017, has transitioned to a new role as president of the National Center for State Courts. Following her departure, Justice Megan Cavanagh has assumed the role of chief justice.

Noah Hood’s credentials include his recent service on the state Court of Appeals in Detroit since 2022. Prior to this, he was a judge on the Wayne County Third Circuit Court for three years and has experience as a federal prosecutor in both Michigan and Ohio.

Looking ahead, Hood, along with Cavanaugh, may face an election in 2026 should they choose to continue their judicial careers.
