Summer at UMBS Sparks Romance and Love of Research: “Truly Priceless”

Love Blossoms at Biological Station

In the magical summer of 2013, a couple found love and a deep connection with nature at the Biological Station. This unique setting, nestled in the embrace of nature, provided the perfect backdrop for their blossoming romance. Their experiences at the station left an indelible mark, intertwining their love story with the natural beauty of the location.

Chris reminisces about leisurely walks on Douglas Lake beaches, exploring Grapevine and Pine Points, and hiking through the Gorge down Carp Creek to Burt Lake. Stargazing at the Milky Way and witnessing the Northern Lights added to the enchantment. “The sense of place that permeates the soil and seeps into your bones is impossible to describe unless you’ve been there,” Chris reflected. The tranquility at UMBS fosters a profound connection with oneself, others, and the natural world, creating a unique environment for relationships to flourish.

Molly, swept away by science, nature, and romance, attended Behavioral Ecology and General Ecology courses at the station. “Chris, a TA for another course, helped with my research projects, like finding ants for my antlions in Behavioral Ecology, so we could spend more time together,” Molly shared. Their time included hikes, live music at Legs Inn, and a memorable first date at Hoppies, cementing their bond swiftly.
