School of Nursing Secures $2 Million Grant
Bedford Falls Foundation Boosts Undergraduate Nursing Education
The University of Michigan’s School of Nursing has been awarded a significant $2 million grant from the Bedford Falls Foundation-DAF. This funding will directly benefit over 140 undergraduate nursing students by providing essential scholarships and academic support. The grant aims to alleviate the financial burden on students, fostering an environment that encourages academic excellence and success.
The substantial donation will establish the Bill and Joanne Conway EPIC Scholarship. This initiative will offer partial scholarships, stipends, and NCLEX preparation materials to BSN students demonstrating financial need. Additional resources funded by the grant include peer tutoring and faculty-led academic support.

“We are deeply grateful to Bedford Falls for their generous support,” stated School of Nursing Dean Patricia D. Hurn. “Their investment is a catalyst for expanding access to education, bolstering academic success, and empowering the next generation of nurses.”
The Bedford Falls Foundation, established by Carlyle Group co-founder Bill Conway Jr. and his late wife Joanne, focuses on removing barriers to quality nursing education. “The United States needs nurses too much to allow finances to be an impediment,” Conway expressed. This partnership amplifies the impact of the University of Michigan School of Nursing, allowing them to reach more students who need support.
Since 2013, the Bedford Falls Foundation has contributed over $325.6 million to nursing schools nationwide. The University of Michigan School of Nursing is the first recipient of this foundation’s grant in Michigan.
