Dear students, faculty and staff,

This week marks the beginning of a new U.S. executive and legislative administration, leading to changes in healthcare, research, and education laws affecting our institution.

The University of Michigan has implemented a comprehensive review process to assess these changes. Utilizing the expertise of university leaders, the goal is to understand implications and engage thoughtfully with the new administration, as emphasized in President Santa J. Ono’s January 8th message.

Despite uncertainties from new executive orders and legislative shifts, the university is committed to collaborating with policymakers, involving our community, and upholding our core values. Change often sparks diverse opinions and questions within our community.

The university supports free speech and expression rights for students, faculty, and staff, encouraging civil discourse and constructive debate as fundamental to a leading public university.

We remain dedicated to our mission of achieving academic excellence, pioneering field-defining research, and enhancing teaching methods to positively impact Michigan and the world.

Sincerely,

Laurie McCauley
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs

Geoff Chatas
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Marschall S. Runge
Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs
