Vice President Vance Advocates for American Manufacturing in Michigan

The revitalization of American manufacturing was at the forefront of discussions as U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Small Business Administration Chief Kelly Loeffler visited Vantage Plastics in Bay County, Michigan. Enthusiastic attendees greeted them with applause, underscoring the administration’s commitment to boosting domestic production.

Highlighting the administration’s economic strategies, Vance emphasized the importance of local manufacturing. “If you want to be rewarded, build in America. If you want to be penalized, build outside of America. It’s as simple as that,” he stated, rallying support from those present.

However, the reception of this message has been mixed, largely due to rising tensions with Canada. The administration’s decision to impose a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imports has sparked a trade dispute with Canada, leading to retaliatory measures from Ottawa and the European Union.

Concurrently, the University of Michigan reported a significant drop in U.S. consumer sentiment, which decreased for the third consecutive month. The report highlighted a rise in consumer inflation expectations, from 3.5% to 3.9%, the most substantial increase since 1993.

Despite the challenges, Vance acknowledged that “the road ahead of us is long.” His visit was met with protests from Democrats, UAW members, and other groups. Organizer Karen Tighe expressed concerns about the administration’s policies, stating, “All of the economic policies that are coming out the Trump and Musk White House are hurting people here.”

Vance addressed the protestors by emphasizing the benefits of revitalizing American manufacturing, suggesting it could help “get those people off the streets and back to work.”
