PA House Democrats Secure 102-101 Majority in Tight Election

Democrats are set to retain control of the Pennsylvania House by a narrow one-seat margin following State Rep. Frank Burns (D-Cambria) securing another term in his Republican-leaning district.

First elected in 2010, Burns has consistently held his seat even though Donald Trump dominated his Cambria County district by over 30% in past elections.

Madeline Zann, Executive Director of the PA House Democratic Campaign Committee (PAHDCC), stated, “Our majority has been delivering for Pennsylvania, and voters responded.”

She added, “This election was challenging, but our incumbents maintain voter trust. They prioritize district needs and Pennsylvania’s welfare. Our majority is truly the people’s choice.”

Spotlight PA reported Burns retained his seat thanks to significant financial support from the PA House Democrats’ campaign fund.

The PA HDCC invested over $3.4 million to secure Burns’ seat, while the Commonwealth Leadership Fund, backed by billionaire Jeffrey Yass, allocated $885,000 for his opponent.

Democrats achieved a Pennsylvania House majority in 2022 for the first time in over a decade, appointing Joanna McClinton as the first female and second Black House Speaker in the state’s history.
