Pennsylvania’s GOP Senate Candidate McCormick Concerned Over Trump’s Early Voting Criticism
Republican U.S. Senate candidate for Pennsylvania, Dave McCormick, who previously endorsed former President Donald Trump’s reelection bid, is worried that Trump’s criticism of early voting might hamper his campaign according to a Politico report.
In a call with Pennsylvania GOP congressional campaigns, McCormick expressed his team’s attempts to discourage Trump from attacking early voting.
McCormick stated the Republican Party’s goal to compete with the Democrats on early voting. He noted Trump’s occasional mistrust of mail-in ballots can deter Republicans from applying for them.
The Senate candidate also noted Trump’s unfounded election integrity claims, which question President Joe Biden’s legitimate 2020 victory, are causing Republicans to doubt the electoral process.
Despite previous fights against mail-in voting by Trump and Pennsylvania Republicans, McCormick and other key Republicans launched an initiative – “Pennsylvania Bank Your Vote,” in October 2023, encouraging the state’s Republicans to cast early votes.
Trump endorsed this early voting initiative on video, urging supporters to defeat the “disastrous crooked Biden administration.”
However, Trump maintained his stance for one-day voting and paper ballots in a subsequent radio interview, comparing extended voting periods to a “third-world nation.”
Trump has long asserted without proof that Philadelphia is a hub for voter fraud, and claims victory in the 2020 Pennsylvania election, despite Biden’s confirmed 80,000 vote lead. Current polls show McCormick trailing Democratic Senator Bob Casey by five to 10 points.
