Police updates confirmed the incident involved an armed individual who had reportedly assaulted a female. The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office had earlier informed CBS Philadelphia of the domestic incident.

Police were alerted to the assault at around 7 a.m. The female victim had fled from a residence on Independence Place, located in the Headley development. Knowing the male offender was armed, police activated the South-Central Emergency Response Team. A shelter-in-place order was issued on social media and through the HOA.

After about two-and-a-half hours, the man was taken into custody by police without incident.

Newtown Township Police Department reassured the community that the situation had ended safely with no further danger.

The shelter-in-place order was first announced just after 8 a.m. Sunday and the entrance to the Headley Drive development was blocked off for several hours. The female victim sustained minor injuries from the initial altercation but refused medical treatment. No other injuries were reported.
