he governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, has approved $346 million in federal funding for energy efficiency improvement.

Article Summary –

The governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, has approved $346 million in federal funding for energy efficiency improvement. This decision comes under the Rewiring America program by President Joe Biden, which includes the Inflation Reduction Act and the Investment in Jobs Act. The funding is expected to lower energy costs for residents, cover weatherization programs, and boost job creation in construction and infrastructure.

‘Federal Energy-Efficiency Improvement Funding to Alleviate Floridians’ Utility Bill Burden’

Gov. Ron DeSantis approved $346 million in federal energy-efficiency improvement funding as part of Florida’s $116.5 billion 2024-25 budget. This funding will significantly aid Floridians struggling with rising utility costs.

Florida’s allotment comes from the Rewiring America initiative under President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act and the Investment in Jobs Act. Despite vetoing $30 million in energy programs last year, DeSantis’s approval now allows residents to enhance their homes’ energy efficiency via rebates for energy-efficient appliances.

“Governor DeSantis’s allocation of $346 million for Florida’s Home Energy Rebate programs, including those targeting low- and moderate-income households, heralds a transformative investment. The Rebates will decrease Floridians’ energy costs while improving comfort and indoor air quality,” commented Aimee Skrzekut, President of Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance.

The funding also extends to weatherization programs, ensuring the hot Florida air remains outside, further reducing energy costs.

Moreover, this investment will not only provide financial relief but also stimulate job opportunities in construction and infrastructure sectors. “This significant investment will directly lower electricity bills for many Floridians, and we commend Gov. DeSantis for prioritizing Florida families and pushing for energy cost reductions at a critical time,” remarked Zachary Colletti, Executive Director for Conservatives for Clean Energy-Florida.

Earlier this year, DeSantis vetoed nearly $1 billion from the submitted budget. The approved budget, including the energy-efficiency improvement funding, will take effect from July 1.
