Florida Republican Ryan Elijah Attributes Mother’s Health Crisis to Divine Timing for Congressional Run
Ryan Elijah, previously a local news broadcaster, is stepping into the political arena, aiming to represent Florida’s 7th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Elijah shared personal insights into his decision-making process, crediting a family health issue as a pivotal factor in his candidacy.
In a June interview with Pro-Life Radio, Elijah disclosed, “My mom’s not in great health,” highlighting her move to an assisted living facility. He elaborated that this change was a significant factor in his decision to pursue a congressional seat, stating, “This was where God had opened a door because about a year ago, she was by herself and I told my wife, there’s no way I can run for Congress and live in Washington when I have to be at her house three or four times a day. That’s where she had fallen and her health deteriorated to where we no longer could keep her there.”
Elijah’s narrative has faced skepticism, as critics question his motives. He has faced scrutiny for portraying himself as a “20-year Florida resident,” despite a previous congressional bid in Indiana in 2010. This background fuels allegations of political opportunism, challenging his credibility.
During the same Pro-Life Radio session, Elijah revealed that politics had been on his mind since his twenties, influencing “every decision I made.” This admission contrasts with his earlier comments to Politico, where he professed, “I hate to even think of myself as a politician.”
Elijah’s run places him against Democratic contender Bale Dalton, who previously served as NASA’s chief of staff. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has flagged Florida’s 7th District as a key competitive area, indicating a closely contested race.
