An oil well pad near Sidney, Montana

SIDNEY — A powerful explosion rocked a storage and disposal plant in eastern Montana’s oil fields Wednesday night, resonating up to 10 miles away. Fortunately, the incident resulted in no injuries or fatalities, as per local authorities. The explosion site, located in a secluded area near the North Dakota border, is surrounded by numerous oil and gas wells.

On Thursday, the fire continued to blaze while emergency crews awaited a safer moment to approach, stated Richland County Emergency Manager Brandon Roth. The saltwater disposal plant, 3 miles south of Sidney, was unoccupied at the explosion time, Roth confirmed.

Several storage tanks were engulfed in flames, though details regarding their contents and the facility’s ownership remain undisclosed. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
