Heightened Fire Restrictions Enforced in Kaibab National Forest

In response to escalating fire risks, Coconino County officials have tightened restrictions within certain regions of the Kaibab National Forest. These new stage 2 fire restrictions are aimed at mitigating the potential for further wildfire incidents in vulnerable areas.

The restrictions are specifically targeted at unincorporated lands located within the Tusayan and North Kaibab ranger districts. Under the new rules, all types of campfires, including those utilizing wood, charcoal, and briquettes, are prohibited. Additionally, outdoor smoking is banned except in designated developed sites, and the use of internal combustion engines without spark arrestors, as well as open-flame torches, is strictly not allowed.

However, there is an exception for devices powered solely by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels, which can be used as long as they can be switched on and off and are operated in designated developed areas.

These measures coincide with similar stage 2 restrictions imposed by U.S. Forest Service officials on the North Kaibab and Tusayan ranger districts. This decision comes as the region grapples with the Dragon Bravo and White Sage fires, which have collectively scorched approximately 193,000 acres.
