Former Pennsylvania Republican U.S. Rep. Jim Greenwood is urging Rep. Rob Bresnahan to quit Congress over corruption claims.
On March 10, Politico reported unearthed audio contradicting Bresnahan’s stock trading statements. The first-term lawmaker mentioned in an April 2025 radio interview discussing stock positions with his financial adviser. However, in a June 2025 tele-town hall, he claimed no dialogues with them over trades.
A Bresnahan campaign spokesperson refuted any contradictions, stating, “Rob Bresnahan has consistently said he does not partake in stock trades.”
Greenwood, representing eastern Pennsylvania from 1993 to 2005, posted on Facebook urging Bresnahan’s resignation, citing misuse of power and a breach of trust. He emphasized unity across parties in combating corruption.
Bresnahan, a wealthy construction executive, won his seat in 2024 after advocating in a letter for banning Congress stock trading. He criticized politicians profiting while in office and called for legislative reforms.
Since taking office, Bresnahan proposed a stock trading ban but disclosed numerous trades worth over $8 million, as tracked by Capitol Trades. A New York Times report named him a top trader in his class.
In July 2025, Bresnahan told WVIA News that ethics rules hindered creating a blind trust for his assets and insisted he had no role in trades made by advisers.
Bresnahan’s transactions often involve industries regulated by Congress. In May 2025, he sold Medicaid stocks before voting to cut program funding, as reported by NBC News.
Bresnahan spokesperson Chris Pack dismissed the allegations as misrepresented comments, criticizing Greenwood and calling him a “political has-been.”
Democratic Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti challenges Bresnahan in the upcoming election for Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District.
