Flint Initiates Renewed Efforts Against Illegal Dumping
In a bid to combat the persistent issue of illegal dumping, Flint officials have launched a renewed campaign offering incentives for tips leading to arrests. This initiative aims to eliminate the city’s reputation as a dumping ground.
The announcement was made by Mayor Sheldon Neeley at a press conference held at a derelict property on the north side, which was littered with hundreds of discarded tires.

Mayor Neeley emphasized that both individuals and corporations engaging in these activities would face consequences. He stated, “You are not going to be allowed to do business in this city anymore,” speaking specifically about businesses caught dumping.
He further noted efforts were underway to amend city ordinances and collaborate with state laws to ensure violators are effectively shut down. The crackdown, which originated in 2020, is now being reinforced with additional measures.
Flint Police Chief Terence Green elaborated on the strategy, highlighting the use of cash rewards and surveillance footage to catch offenders. “Any vehicle used, any type of apparatus used to illegally dump, we’re seizing ’em on the spot, we’re impounding it and we’ll seek civil forfeiture against that vehicle,” Green explained.
Residents in the vicinity reported that the abandoned, fire-damaged property attracted illegal dumping activities two years ago, following the house fire.
