New York Rep. Mike Lawler’s Campaign Spending Under Scrutiny
Allegations of extravagant campaign spending by New York Representative Mike Lawler have surfaced, following a Daily Mail report detailing expenditures on luxury travel and accommodations.
According to public records from the Federal Elections Commission (FEC), Lawler allocated over $150,000 to high-end expenses in the previous year. This includes $11,000 on personal chauffeurs and $700 for a room at a beachfront Ritz-Carlton in Florida.
The FEC permits campaign funds to be used for travel, provided the costs are justifiable as reasonable and necessary.
Recent filings for 2026 show a continuation of these spending patterns. In January, Lawler’s campaign reported expenses exceeding $4,800 for a trip to West Palm Beach, FL, with $3,511 spent on limousine services and $1,355 on accommodations at a local Hilton hotel.
West Palm Beach offers a city-operated car service, akin to Uber, available at no cost.
In the same month, a $600 expense was recorded at a pizza restaurant in Jefferson Valley, NY, labeled as “fundraiser expenses.”
March saw another visit to Florida for a fundraiser at the St. Regis Hotel in Longboat Key, where the campaign spent $807 on car services. Notably, Longboat Key, located in Sarasota County, has an affordable community car service with rides priced between $3 and $6.
The timing of these expenditures could be problematic for Lawler, as voters are grappling with the economic effects of the Iran war and tariff policies from former President Donald Trump. Inflation, driven by rising gas prices, has reached its highest level in two years.
In pursuit of a third term in the House, Lawler is perceived as one of the more vulnerable Republican incumbents in the current election cycle.
