Candidates Miss Financial Disclosure Deadline for Congressional Race

Two Democrats and one Republican missed the deadline to file financial disclosures for congressional candidacy.
3 Arizona congressional candidates miss deadline to file financial disclosures

In a surprising twist in the race for congressional seats, three candidates have failed to meet a crucial financial reporting deadline. These disclosures, which are mandatory for congressional candidates and current members, provide transparency about personal finances.

The financial disclosure reports are designed to reveal any potential conflicts of interest by detailing income, investments, and liabilities. However, Democratic candidate Kai Newkirk, who is challenging incumbent Greg Stanton in District 4, along with Republican hopeful Daniel Keenan in District 5 and Democratic contender Rick McCartney in District 1, did not submit their disclosures by the May 15 deadline.

As Keenan aims to take over from outgoing Congressman Andy Biggs, and McCartney seeks to fill the position of retiring Congressman David Schweikert—both of whom are pursuing gubernatorial bids—the importance of these disclosures becomes even more significant.

Despite the oversight, there has been a lack of communication from the involved candidates, as none have responded to inquiries for comments.

Fortunately for some, extensions were secured by various Arizona congressmen and candidates, allowing them to sidestep potential penalties. For those who miss the deadline without obtaining an extension, the consequence is a $200 fine if the delay extends beyond 30 days.
