Wildfire Ignites in Arizona’s Coconino National Forest, Prompting Response
A wildfire, named the Dane Fire, has erupted near the Mogollon Rim in Arizona’s Coconino National Forest. Reported early Friday morning, the blaze has already covered an area of 115 acres, located approximately 12 miles east of Clints Well.
The fire is advancing northeast at a moderate pace, consuming sections of the pine forest. Despite the fire’s progression, officials have stated that it does not currently endanger nearby infrastructure or communities.
Firefighting teams are actively combating the flames, aiming to confine the blaze within a limited area and extinguish it swiftly. The resources deployed include four engines, one dozer, and additional personnel assigned to manage the situation.
Residents and travelers may notice smoke visible from State Route 87, the Happy Jack vicinity, and areas beneath the rim. Due to heightened vehicle activity on forest roads, the public is advised to steer clear of the affected locations.
The cause of the fire is presently under investigation.
Concerns Amidst Potentially Active Fire Season
Amidst the unfolding situation, attention is also drawn to the disbandment of a longstanding wildfire prevention crew that had served the Flagstaff area. This development has sparked discussions among residents and former fire officials, especially as the region anticipates a potentially active fire season.
