Power Outages Sweep Across Flagstaff and Grand Canyon Due to Wildfire Threats

In an effort to mitigate the risk of wildfires, Arizona Public Service Co. has implemented a public safety power shutoff affecting thousands of residents. The shutoff, which commenced on Saturday morning, is expected to last until 4 p.m. on Sunday, impacting several communities in the region.

At approximately 10 a.m. on Saturday, over 7,800 customers in areas including east Flagstaff, Doney Park, and Grand Canyon National Park were reported to be without power. The affected locales also include Timberline, Fernwood, Mormon Lake, Cosnino, Sunset Crater, Ft. Valley/Baderville, Walnut Canyon, Valle, and Tusayan.

In response to the ongoing situation, a collaboration between the power company, Coconino County, the City of Flagstaff, Grand Canyon National Park, and other entities has led to the establishment of multiple cooling centers and points for distributing water and ice to assist affected residents.
