Governor Hobbs Promotes Affordable Housing Initiative in Tucson

In an effort to address Arizona’s housing affordability challenge, Gov. Katie Hobbs visited Tucson to highlight the Arizona is Home program. This initiative aims to aid low- and middle-income first-time homebuyers by offering financial support.

To date, Hobbs reported that over 350 families have benefited from the program. However, she emphasized that the journey to affordable housing in the state is far from over. “This is not a problem that we got to overnight and we’re not gonna fix it overnight,” said Hobbs. “So the investments we’ve made have been really critical, but we need to continue those investments. We’re gonna keep pushing them and you’ll see [that] in our budget next month.”

The Arizona is Home program grants eligible individuals assistance with down payments and reduces mortgage rates. Initiated with a $13 million allocation announced by Hobbs in April, the program continues to welcome new applicants.

According to Hobbs, “The initial funding was able to help up to 500 families and so far, 362 families have been able to purchase a home. So hopefully more folks will learn about this and take advantage of it.”
