Article Summary –

A viral video has attracted attention to a Michigan man, Corey Harris, who attended a virtual hearing regarding his purported suspended license while driving. However, Judge Cedric Simpson, who presided over the hearing, stated that Harris has never had a license, contrary to Harris’ claims that his license should have long been reinstated. Simpson further clarified that Harris’ Michigan driving privileges were suspended, not his license, and noted that Harris knew he did not hold a valid license as he renews his ID annually.

Michigan Man’s Viral Video Case Takes Unexpected Turn

In a new development to the tale of a viral video featuring a Michigan man attending a virtual court hearing on his suspended driver’s license while driving, the presiding judge, asserted the defendant never held a license.

Judge Cedric Simpson contradicted claims from Corey Harris that his allegedly suspended license should have been reinstated long ago.

Simpson, during a recent hearing, stated: “Based upon what the court has looked at, [Harris] has never had a Michigan license, ever,”. He added that Harris “has never had a license in the other 49 states and commonwealths”. He even clarified that Harris doesn’t have driving privileges in Michigan.

Wednesday’s revelations came after Harris expressed dissatisfaction about his virtual court hearing over his purported license suspension. His misdemeanor case originated from a traffic stop in Pittsfield township last October.

In a recorded hearing, Simpson asked Harris: “Are you driving?” to which Harris responded by saying he was pulling into his doctor’s office and was asked to turn himself into the Washtenaw County Jail.

It was reported later that Harris’s suspended license was due for reinstatement in January 2022. However, 7 News Detroit reported that Michigan’s secretary of state never received clearance to restore Harris’s license.

Despite having paid the necessary fees, it’s now revealed that Harris never had a license to start with. Simpson clarified that it was actually Harris’s Michigan driving privileges that were suspended, not his license.

Simpson revealed that Harris had known he didn’t possess a driver’s license. “Either you have an ID or you have a license,” Simpson said, adding that Harris has always gotten a new ID every year.

Court records reveal Harris has posted a $450 bond and is currently not in custody awaiting trial. His next hearing is tentatively scheduled for August 13.
