Michigan Medicine’s clinical enterprise projects a positive fiscal year-end with a 1.9% operating margin, totaling $181.4 million, based on operating revenues of $9.5 billion. These results reflect the fiscal year 2026 performance from U-M Health, encompassing 12 hospitals, numerous clinics, and the regional health network, including UM Health-West and UM Health-Sparrow.

Regents have approved a budget targeting financial performance for the fiscal year starting July 1. The fiscal year 2027 plan aims for a 0.6% operating margin, considering changes in health care reimbursement and operating expenses.

Julie Ishak, chief nurse and operations executive, presented the fiscal projections and the FY ’27 plan during the Board of Regents meeting. She noted that enhanced access and patient volumes, coupled with demand for specialty pharmacy expertise, drove fiscal 2026’s positive financial health.

“We are happy to present results that reflect our team’s commitment and dedication to our Strong BASE and Bold Future goals, which include our commitment to Belonging, Access, Safety and Quality, and Experience,” Ishak stated. She expressed gratitude to the teams for their dedication to maintaining high standards of care, fulfilling their mission of advancing health care.

In fiscal year 2027, Michigan Medicine expects over 97,000 inpatient admissions and 5 million outpatient visits across 200+ locations. Ishak detailed progress in improving health for Michiganders, highlighting improvements in adult mortality rates, reduced catheter-associated infections, and fewer safety incidents.

Michigan Medicine has expanded access through new community centers like the Ypsilanti Health Center, managing over 53,000 visits. The D. Dan and Betty Kahn Pavilion opened in November 2025, with ongoing construction at the Troy Medical Campus, featuring the Eisenberg Troy Center for Specialty Care, and other facilities opening by fall 2027.

Expansion in mid-Michigan includes a new health care center in Grand Ledge and new facilities in Lansing. Ishak emphasized Michigan Medicine’s commitment to clinical excellence and innovation, strengthening community connections statewide.
