Ukrainian-Americans Rally in Warren Amidst Shift in U.S. Policy

In a show of solidarity, Ukrainian-American citizens gathered in Warren on Tuesday evening, wielding Ukrainian flags to express their support as the U.S. undergoes significant policy changes regarding the ongoing conflict with Russia.

President Donald Trump has publicly announced his support for achieving peace in Ukraine.

During a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night, Trump stated, “I am working tirelessly to end the savage conflict in Ukraine.”

His Congressional address outlined a new approach aimed at fostering peace in Ukraine, marking a departure from the previous Biden administration’s policies within a span of weeks.

The shift became evident on Monday when Trump initiated a halt to U.S. military aid to Ukraine, effectively ending a long-standing tradition of American support aimed at countering Russian aggression.

At a pro-Ukraine rally held outside the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Warren, a speaker declared, “God bless a free and democratic Ukraine,” to enthusiastic applause from attendees.

Rally speakers voiced unwavering support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.

Many attendees held signs expressing dissatisfaction with President Trump’s recent change in U.S. foreign policy concerning Ukraine.

Rally organizer Larysa Blysniuk criticized the strategy, stating, “That strategy to me is one that is confusing and really flies in the face of really wanting to have a peace that is just.”

Numerous participants carried signs drawing connections between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

However, there remains hope among some that the U.S. will resume military assistance to Ukraine, advocating for a “just peace” that includes agreements to curb future Russian incursions.

Andrew Powers from the Ukrainian American Crisis Response Committee of Michigan emphasized, “No one wants peace more than Ukraine.”
