Harris Warns About Trump’s ‘Assault’ on Freedom, Pledges $25,000 for Home Buyers and Medicare Expansion

Before the Kamala Harris rally in Greenville, Chanelle Pickens stood with her 12-year-old daughter, Addison, acknowledging disagreement with some of Harris’ ideas. “There are some issues I do not agree with,” Pickens said, declining to specify. Yet, she and Addison volunteer for the Harris-Walz campaign.

Why? For abortion rights and the stark differences between Harris and Donald Trump in rhetoric, Pickens stated. “Trump’s speeches are about fear and negative rhetoric,” she said. “Kamala talks about peace, prosperity, and unity.”

She encourages undecided voters to “love our neighbors greater than we love ourselves.”

A few hours later, Harris echoed this message.

‘A New and Optimistic Generation’

Harris began her 2024 campaign’s final stretch in a key state, contrasting her promise to work for all Americans with Trump’s calls for revenge. Speaking to a full crowd at Eastern Carolina University, she highlighted Republicans supporting her or warning against Trump.

Harris cited reports of Ret. US Army Gen. Mark Milley calling Trump a “fascist” and “dangerous.”

Harris warned the danger would grow if Trump returned to the White House. “Donald Trump is unserious, but his presidency would be serious. Imagine Trump with no guardrails,” she said, referencing his dictator-like intentions.

The latest danger, she said, was Trump’s spreading of lies about Hurricane Helene’s response efforts, harming relief efforts and morale. “Trump cares more about scaring people than solving problems,” Harris said.

She pledged to “fix problems” affecting families, vowing to be “a president who works for all the American people.” Defeating Trump, she said, would shut down violent rhetoric and “usher in a new and optimistic generation of leadership.”

‘Support to the Sandwich Generation’

Harris emphasized her record as a prosecutor and California Attorney General, addressing issues like affordable housing and Medicare covering in-home senior care. She proposed Medicare expansion for home health care, allowing seniors to “live at home with dignity.”

Harris, recalling her own caregiving experience, related to “the sandwich generation,” raising kids while caring for parents. “It’s about finding comfort and joy for those you care for,” she said, resonating with the crowd.

‘I’m Really Excited’

Addison Pickens, too young to vote, was eager to hear Harris speak. She watched as attendees, young and old, gathered. “I’m excited to see what happens,” she said, proud of the possibility of “our first Black woman president.”
