
Tennessee Representative Engages Consultant Known for Controversial Data Practices
In a move scrutinized by privacy advocates, Representative Andy Ogles from Tennessee has engaged a consulting firm linked to questionable data handling techniques. The firm, Frontline Strategies, received over $46,000 from Ogles’ campaign between August 2025 and January 2026. This Illinois-based firm assists Republican candidates with digital strategies and fundraising efforts.
One of the prominent figures at Frontline Strategies is Darian Rafie, whose expertise in digital advertising has previously contributed to the Republican National Committee and former President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. Rafie has openly discussed utilizing geospatial technology for data collection, raising ethical concerns.
Data Collection Practices Under Scrutiny
In a 2019 interview with OpenDemocracy, Rafie described methods of data extraction at political events. “There is a lot of stuff to be done with mobile phones and geo-fencing areas,” Rafie explained. “Say there’s a rally somewhere, one of these big Trump campaign rallies. What we’ll do is we’ll draw a polygon around that event, and then we’ll register all the phones that were there.”
