The Athletic Department showcased a balanced budget for fiscal year 2027 to the Board of Regents on June 25, forecasting operating revenues and expenses of $297.3 million. The financial health of Michigan Athletics largely hinges on the number of home football games at Michigan Stadium. The imbalanced schedule means these games heavily influence fluctuations in spectator-admission revenue. Michigan Athletics anticipates a revenue boost in FY 2027, thanks to an expanded home schedule.

A projected $17.6 million increase in revenue comes with an eight-game home schedule in 2027, compared to six games the previous year. Expenses are set to rise by $8.4 million, significantly enhancing the student-athlete experience with $5.9 million allocated. Revenue sharing will grow by $3.32 million to $21.32 million, while financial aid is expected to increase by $2.59 million, reaching $42.53 million. Salaries and benefits will see a $2.53 million rise, partly due to football staff transitions and salary hikes.

Potential new revenue streams could bolster Michigan Athletics’ income in FY 2027. Discussions are ongoing with Michigan Sports Properties and Learfield for new sponsorship opportunities, including jersey patches and digital scoreboard advertising. The Leaders and Best Champion Partner Program aims to fund scholarships, NIL opportunities, facility upgrades, and retain top-tier coaches and staff.
