“This initial funding ensures no delay in repairing roads and reopening critical routes,” stated US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “The Biden-Harris administration stands with North Carolina, and more federal resources will follow.”

Gov. Roy Cooper expressed gratitude for the swift funding release.

The federal response has already approved over $32 million in emergency financial assistance for over 27,000 North Carolina households.

President Joe Biden, during his Raleigh visit last week, pledged comprehensive federal support for hurricane cleanup, while Vice President Kamala Harris promised ongoing federal aid, including $750 in immediate assistance to survivors.

FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell urged more people to apply for this aid.

“The $750 aids in medicine and food expenses, and more funds will support home repairs and displacement costs,” Criswell explained.

Nearly 7,000 federal staff, including over 800 FEMA workers, are assisting survivors in seeking FEMA aid, as 15.6 million meals, 13.9 million liters of water, 157 generators, and over 505,000 tarps have been distributed.

Over 1,200 Urban Search and Rescue personnel have supported more than 3,200 survivors, according to FEMA.

Additionally, the Biden-Harris administration deployed 1,500 active-duty troops to facilitate aid distribution in North Carolina.
